This Super-working article will tell you how can anyone hack or reset a windows password from Backtrack or Ubantu live cd. What you have to do is following the steps:
Step1. > Download Backtrack 4 from its official site and make a live cd or USB Flashdrive (from unetbootin)
Step2.> Boot it in the victims PC or Laptop and Run the live CD
Step3.> Type startx to have a graphical enviornment.
Step4.> Then open terminal window and check that “chntpw” is installed or not. well I am using backtrack 4 R1 and it has a already installed chntpw.
If not found download it from the following command
# sudo apt-get update
#sudo apt-get install chntpw
Step5.>Then mount the windows system partition , by default it is /dev/sda1
You can check it by fdisk -l|grep NTFS
Mount it by following command
#mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/
Then go to /mnt by cd command, see the snapshot below
go to the path cd /mnt/WINDOWS/system32/config/
After going to the directory type this command to crack the SAM file
#sudo chntpw SAM
It will show you the below screen
Select option 1 to reset the password then type “y” to confirm. You can also edit the administrator password or enable/disable the user account.

there’s a lot of windows utilities are there ! but as a professional we have to use Linux. otherwise you can use many tools like ERD commander,drraj etc to reset the windows password. Main thing is that chntpw works great on all windows architecture 2k,xp,2k3,longhorn,vista and 7.
